Essential Shortcuts for Enlighten Enterprise

Software should work with you, not against you. In a GIS environment, much of your day is spent navigating between map views and data tables. While these tasks are foundational, the repetitive movement between a mouse and a toolbar can create unnecessary friction in your workflow.

Utilizing built-in shortcuts allows you to keep your hands on the keys to maintain a better “flow” while navigating complex canvases or performing routine data entry and editing, making your daily interactions with the data feel more seamless.

Navigating the Map Canvas

The map is the primary interface for your spatial data. These combinations allow you to zoom, rotate, and select features more intuitively than relying on toolbar icons alone.

Shortcut Action
Shift + Drag
Zoom into a specific dragged box
Shift + Alt + Drag
Rotate the map (the compass arrow on the map indicates North; click it to reset)
Ctrl + Drag
Radial (circle) selection on the active layer
Shift + Click
Add a feature to your current selection
Ctrl + Click
Toggle an individual feature on or off within the selection
Alt + Ctrl + Click
Add a feature to the current selection (additive)
Double-click
Zoom in one level
Mouse Wheel
Continuous zoom in and out
Escape
Exit fullscreen mode

Data Table Grid Navigation

When moving through records in the Data Table Grid, these keyboard commands help you jump between cells and pages without constant clicking.

Shortcut Action
Up / Down Arrow Keys
Move focus between rows
Left / Right Arrow Keys
Move focus between cells within a row
Tab
Jump to the next cell
Shift + Tab
Jump to the previous cell
Page Up / Page Down
Navigate to the previous or next page (focuses on the first or last row)
Home / End
Jump to the first or last column of the current row

Data Table Grid Inline Editing & Data Entry

Updating attributes is often a high-repetition task. These shortcuts handle the transition between viewing and editing, allowing for quicker data entry without leaving the keyboard.

Shortcut Action
F2 or Double-click
Start inline editing on the focused cell
Enter
Start editing, or commit your changes and exit the cell
Tab
Save the current cell and move to the next editable cell
Shift + Tab
Save the current cell and move to the previous editable cell
Escape
Cancel the current edit and revert to the original value

Search & Utility Commands

Use these universal commands to execute queries or clear your workspace quickly.

Shortcut Action
Enter (in Search Box)
Run the current search query
Escape (in Search Box)
Instantly clear search text
Escape (in Dialogs)
Close the active dialog window

Getting comfortable with these shortcuts is a simple way to reduce the amount of clicks it takes to complete a task in your daily routine. Log in to your environment and see if these small adjustments help your workspace feel a bit more responsive.
