Order, Display, and Control

Try It Yourself #

  1. Open the Workspace & Layers panel on the right of the main map.
  2. Change your active workspace to MCQT_Water_UNV, if not on it already.
Order #
  1. Click on the caret symbol next to Overlays to collapse the layers group.
  2. Collapse the Base Layer Group.
  3. Expand the Overlays group, and expand collapse sub-groups using the associated caret symbol.
  4. Layers can be nested in groups and sub-groups down to multiple levels in the system. Note the Easement Lines and Easement Polygon layers are nested in a group nested to the 3rd level. Overlays/Property/Easements.
  5. The order of display on the map can be controlled in the panel. Simply click and drag any layer, group, or sub-group up or down. Items on the top of the list display above items lower down on the main map.
  6. Note: You are currently using a predefined Universal Workspace, meaning it is the same layer setup for all users (Universal) who have access to it, and it is defined by someone else. So, while you can change the display order and status in your session, those changes will not be saved for you. If you were using your own workspace, you can save your changes.
Display and Control #
  1. On/Off – Use the eye icon to the left of a group, subgroup, or layer to turn that feature on or off. Green is on, grey with a strike out is off.
  2. Scale dependency – When a layer is on, the text of the layer name is used to indicate if it is available at the current zoom scale. Zoom out a bit and you will see some layers are on, but the text is greyed out. This indicates that even though the layer is on, the feature is out of range at the current zoom scale, meaning you are zoomed too far away or too close.
  3. Transparency – On a layer, if you click the caret icon to the left of the layer name, a transparency control with a slider bar is displayed. You can adjust the transparency on any layer or base layer. It is easy to see on shaded polygon layers. For example, if you zoom to extents on the Property/Suburbs layer, you can adjust the transparency. If you were in your own workspace, you could save the changes.
